Troy Spring State Park
Debra did not get her start in the state of Florida, but it is where she wound up finding home. Deb is a Texas native- born in the town of McKinney just north of Dallas. As a young girl she was taught to enjoy what nature had to offer. Her family would often travel to the north Georgia mountains and the beaches of Panama City in Florida. From a very early age Debra knew she wanted to travel and see the world.
She enlisted right after high school in the United State Air Force and served for eight years. She was the first woman in her career field of fuels to achieve the rank of Staff Sergeant. She learned about different cultures while being stationed in the Philippines, and also traveling to Korea, Japan and Okinawa.
After leaving the Air Force, Debra joined the Florida Park Service in 1997. She has studied natural, cultural and archaeological resources during her 22-year tenure in the state parks, working for 15 years at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, Forest Capital Museum State Park in Perry, and now Troy Spring State Park.
Debra’s interests include antique archaeology, history, and the research of family ancestry. Her favorite part of Troy Springs is the local history and culture that can be found there, in addition to the beautiful spring. She loves to share this passion with others, and hopes to see you soon at Troy Spring State Park.
