Gasparilla Island State Park offers a variety of fun interpretive programs, provided with help from our friends group, Barrier Island Parks Society. In one of our most popular programs, Wading Adventures, we head to the bay with nets and buckets to catch sea creatures. You’ll learn all about the local marine life while wading through the estuary with a park ranger.
You can also learn about the Calusa Native Americans who once thrived in the Charlotte Harbor in our Calusa Cast Netting program. Explore the history of fishing around Gasparilla Island and learn how to throw a cast net. You’ll even get a chance to try cast-netting yourself!
Kids have a ball at the annual Great Seashell Hunt in April. In this fun spin on an Easter egg hunt, kids explore the beach looking for colored shells. Winners receive fun prizes for finding special shells. For more information on programs, call 941-964-0375.
